Maori phrase of the week

Growing crystals

Yesterday room7 did an experiment.
First we got a cup and got an ice-block stick and tied a some string on the ice-block stick .
Next Mrs N got the saturated  solution out of a  pot which was sugar and water.
Then Mrs N poured some saturated  solution in our  cup. Then we put our ice-block stick back in the cup.

I predict that that the crystals will grow bigger.

How caves are formed

  1. Rain soaks in the limestone.
  2. The rain combines with carbon Dioxide.
  3. The acid seaps through the cracks in the limestone. When the water carries away the limestone leaves little tunnels.
  4. Over thousands of years lots of limestone is carried away leaving bigger tunnels and chambers of water.
  5. In time the water level drops and the ground raises leaving a cave.
